warmth in portland

just returned from a warm and well-paced road trip through oregon up to portland.
opening reception at newspace attracted a large turn-out in support of some very strong imagery.  very nice of chris bennett  to provide an intimate tour of the gallery and facilities, and curator tj norris was nice enough to share a cup of coffee as well as provide a great contact in guy swanson.
a nice surprise in meeting photographer george kelly, whose black and white street work is nothing short of spectacular.  one of the best experiences i have had admiring photography was this past saturday sitting with george at his home, and viewing his prints as he described them.  what a quick and clever eye.  thanks for the samurai street window print, george.  and thanks for the horse brass.
got a bit of time around stumptown, and the city effused a kind of hip, quirky, progressive sort of niceness that borders between genuine hospitality and an ostensibly lynchian insistence on itself.  very interesting.  i don’t know about first impressions… i think maybe the hot hot weather amidst such plush greenery and healthy rose gardens denoted a misleading suspicion, and but also the optative mood for a more lengthy and concentrated observation.  will definitely try to return for the rain season.

more to write about oregon, and but driving fatigue and family in town prohibits a longer post…
